Basics of Strength and Conditioning

Overview

This workshop covers how to use body weight, partner work, and resistance resources such as bands and even park benches to add a strength and conditioning element to walking based sessions.

The workshop is an essential stepping stone if you are not qualified as a minimum level 2 gym-based fitness instructor and wish to go on to deliver our other programmes such as Functional Fitness and Ageing Well, Ski Fit and Total Body WALX.

Content

  • Revision of muscular strength and endurance theory
  • Concentric and eccentric training
  • How to structure a strength and conditioning workout
  • Using poles, body weight, partners and other kit to add strength training to a Total Body Walx class
  • Progression and adaptation for working with clients with different abilities

Format

  • Online learning and home practice BEFORE 2-hour virtual training and practice session

Assessment

The Nordic Walking Strength and Conditioning workshop consists of a mix of on line and practical virtual sessions. All candidates are given verbal feedback. There is no formal assessment.
